Bilal bin Sa’ad
Tokoh dalam kisah ini adalah Bilal bin Sa’ad. Tahukah engkau siapa Bilal bin Sa’ad? Abdullah bin al-Mubarak berkata: “Keduduakan Bilal bin Sa’ad di negeri Syam1 dan Mesir layaknya kedudukan Hasan al-Bashri di Bashrah. Ia seorang imam dari kalangan tabi’in. Ia wafat sekitar 120 H.
Ketika putra Bilal bin Sa’ad wafat, seorang lelaki datang menemui Bilal. Lelaki itu mengatakan bahwa putranya yang wafat mempunyai utang kepadanya lebih dari 20 dinar. Bilal bertanya, “Ada saksi?”
Lelaki itu menjawab, “Tidak,”
“Ada bukti catatan?” tanya Bilal lagi.
“Tidak.”
Bilal berkata, “Kalau begitu, silahkan bersumpah.”
“Ya,” kata orang itu.
Namun, Bilal lantas meninggalkan orang itu dan tak jadi memintanya bersumpah. Ia masuk ke rumahnya dan keluar membawa banyak dinar. Ia berikan dinar itu dan berkata:
“Bila kau benar, aku sudah memenuhi kewajiban putraku. Bila kau dusta, dinar-dinar ini sedekah buatmu.”
